The story best known in China holds that the festival commemorates the death of the poet QuYuan:
端午节是为了纪念诗人屈原投江离世而来，这个故事在中国广为人知。
It’s said that the local people, who admired him, raced out in their boats to save him, or at least retrieve his body.
相传，当地的百姓们曾在江上划着龙舟，试图救起屈原，或至少能找到他的遗体。
When his body could not be found, they dropped balls of sticky rice into the river so that the fish would eat them instead of Qu Yuan's body. This is said to be the origin of zongzi.
但百姓们最终还是失败了，为了不让水中的鱼把屈原的身体吃掉，他们将粽子投入江中。这也就是粽子的起源。
粽子
Wrapped in leaves of bamboo, zongzi has a special aroma and flavor to the sticky rice and fillings.
粽子用竹叶包裹，因此，它的糯米和馅料都会沾有一种特殊的香味和风味。

端午节的习俗 端午吃什么？ “粽包分两髻，艾束著危冠。旧俗方储药，羸躯亦点丹。”端午节不可不吃的美味食物就是粽子。 粽子，rice-dumpling/zongzi粽子在端午节的地位应该是最重要的了。粽子的英文是: rice-dumpling ，这是比较书面的表达，更常用的表达是 zongzi ，就是粽子的拼音直译。因为是中国特有的食物，所以直译过来也没问题，类似还有很多是中文拼音直译过来的，如饺子的“jiaozi”。还有不是完全拼音，近似的直译豆腐的“tofu”，功夫的“kung fu”。
